New England Adventure 2022 - Day 2

Rain is forecast for the afternoon. We were up and out at the crack of 1:00 pm and headed to the Warren Dunes State Park. In 1996 my son JP and I camped there with the Boy Scouts. It was difficult to place the tent stakes in the sand. They kept coming loose. However when the torrential rains came the water did not puddle around our tents. Sand is good to keep tents dry.

We paid the $10 entry fee. It is long and winding road to the beach. There are many picnic areas along the roadside. The fall foliage is finally coming into color. I am sure we will see more and more color as we travel north and east. We walked along the beach and admired the many flat stones. In my youth I grew up by the ocean and skipping stones into the water was an almost daily event. I have not lost my touch. I tossed a dozen stones into the lake and watched them skip over the water and above the waves. We ate a picnic lunch in the beach parking lot as the rain began to fall. We drove around the campgrounds and headed out.

We are starting to see the fall colors.

Our evening plan was to meet Peter Fischer and Vicki at the Seedz Brewery. We arrived first and saw an empty parking lot. Their website revealed they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. No worries we will meet at Ghost Isle Brewery. Oops, also closed. Ok, how about Greenbush Brewery in Sawyer? Yes, Greenbush is open. We met Pete and Vicki there. The motto of the Greenbush Brewery is “Stay up late, Don’t behave.”

This is a great motto. It reminds me of my musician friend Rambo Thompson.

A great evening with Peter and Vicki.

Dinner was at Casey’s in downtown New Buffalo. Several of Vicki’s friends had recommended this restaurant. We had calamari for an appetizer and a good meal with good service. The rain stopped and we headed back to the hotel. The streets are dark and deserted. We are in a tourist town after Labor Day.

Tomorrow we are off to Batavia, NY on our way to visit my brother Bill and his wife Joanne in New Hampshire. We have tickets for a Carole King tribute on Friday night. The next two days are on the road so it is unlikely there will be a blog page for a few days. Until next time.
