Key Lime Sailing Club
There is time for one more tropical adventure before we set our course north to Lake Bluff. There is a little piece of paradise on Key Largo in the Florida Keys called the Key Lime Sailing Club. It is described as a bohemian style resort that includes the use of a Catalina 22 sailboat with each cottage. In order to have access to the sailboat there are three requirements.
1. Due to insurance requirements I must have sailed my boat within the past six months. It did not matter that I have been sailing for 60 years.
2. I must take and pass a one hour on-line tutorial on boating etiquette in the Florida Everglades. Yes, I passed.
3. Pay a $30 entry fee for a seven day pass to enter the Everglades National Park. Done. We will only be there for two days. No worries. I am happy to make the donation.
One of our sailing friends ( Holly Hanselman ) suggested we get a group of sailing friends together and go to this sailing resort in 2023. When I looked it up I thought this might be a fun place to take my family. Fortunately my grandson Jackson gets two spring breaks. He visited us in February and had the full Stuart condo experience. Why not not try something different for a few days so I booked this resort for three nights. The plan is to pick up Jackson and Alison at West Palm Beach airport (PBI) and drive directly to Key Largo. PBI is one hour in the right direction so it should be about a two or three hour drive to the resort. The resort is on the gulf side of the keys. That means the water will be very thin with many islands and sand bars. Grandson Jackson is looking forward to lots of sailing and snorkeling.
To be continued.
