A strong cold front has blasted in from the north. The boats on the hook in the harbor are rocking and rolling tonight.

On Monday we bid farewell to Tom and Maryann Hauert. They are heading back to Chicago on Maryann’s birthday. And on Tuesday we will welcome Jeff and Stacy Logan. It is a revolving door of Chicago friends. Jeff and Stacy are flying into Miami and driving to Key West. A1A is a beautiful drive if the traffic is not backed up. They should arrive right around 5 – 6 pm for docktails. Good planning. If King Neptune behaves we will all go fishing on Thursday with Captain Joe on the Jolly Rodger II.

We spent part of the day reorganizing and stowing our gear. We will not need to use our tear drop fenders in the locks for a long time so we put them in the basement to free up storage under the salon seats.

Lunch was at BO’s Fish Wagon. We ordered the square grouper special. The cashier said that was old school. I agreed and said I know we get our fries free for being local.

Priscilla and I found our way to the Conch Republic for happy hour. It is 2-4-1 so they bring one drink and give you a wooden nickel for the second drink. You can redeem it that night or any future night during happy hour.

On Tuesday Jeff and Stacy arrived at 6:00 pm and brought several pounds of stone crab claws which we enjoyed during docktails. They are staying at the Galleon hotel until Saturday. They drove from Miami in a seven person van so we have transportation. On Wednesday we will go to the Turtle Rescue Hospital in Marathon.

Declawing of crabs is the process whereby one or both claws of a live crab (including king crabs) are manually pulled off and the animal is then returned to the water. It occurs in several fisheries worldwide, such as in the Florida stone crab. The practice is defended because some crabs can naturally shed limbs and then about a year later after a series of moults, regenerate these limbs.
