Days 344 and 345 - Kagawong
Miles cruised 17, fuel purchased $0, slip fee $65, daily high temperature 74°f
On Tuesday we attended the penultimate broadcast for the season of Roy Eaton’s Georgian Bay / North Channel of Lake Huron Cruisers Net on Tuesday morning at the Anchor Inn in Little Current, Ontario, Canada.
Several other boaters also sat in on the event. Roy gave the weather report, international news and historical commentary on famous events on this date in history. Forty-three boats called in. During the mid-summer season 150 – 160 boats would call in each day.
The gentleman’s gentleman – Roy Eaton.

We received some sad news. Bruce Ashbury passed away today from complications from surgery. Bruce was instrumental in our initial planning to do the Loop. He had been a boat delivery captain for many years and helped us outline the first 1/3 of our trip from Chicago to Florida. We stayed at all the harbors and marinas he recommended. It took a lot of pressure off of us trying to figure where to go each day. He also gave us the three orange teardrop fenders that we used to transit over 100 locks. Thank you Bruce for your inspiration.
On Wednesday Andy and Dale attedened the final Cruisers Net broadcast and we cast off at 11:00 am and cruised 17 miles to the Kagawong Marina on Manitoulin Island.
Kagawong is most famous for Bridal Veil Falls. It is a 1.1 km hike up the hill to reach the falls. Many people were swimming in the pool below falls.

Be careful where you walk. Leaves of three let it be.
Kagawong has a bicycle trail that is marked with bicycles chained to poles along the way.

Thursday is forecast to be blowy from the north. We had planned to anchor out on Thursday night in Beardrop harbor. We will spend Thursday night at the marina in Gore Bay and anchor out on Friday. The forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is for light air.
