Days 284 and 285 - If Pigs Could Fly!

Our plan was to cruise 50 miles from Great Kills to Croton-on-Hudson until we heard about a great price on fuel 10 miles south at Atlantic Highlands. Even though we would have the wind and waves on our nose on our way back – off we went. As we cruised past a Navy pier the patrol boat started heading in our direction. There were three other boats fishing around us. I turned 2 degrees to port and the patrol boat went away. That has to be a very boring job. Upon arrival at Atlantic Highlands we fueled up. Their pump,out system was broken. We beat our way into the wind and waves and totally encrusted CL in salt as we headed to the Veranzanno Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. Another Looper boat had agreed to meet us and trade pictures at the Statue of Liberty. The plan came together and we each took great photos of each other.

We cruised the 50 miles up the Hudson to Half Moon Bay Marina. On the way we passed under the new Tappan Zee Bridge that is under construction. There was the tiniest of “No Wake” signs and three police boats hiding behind the bridge abutment. Dale was on the helm and was not fooled and we transited without incident.

Since the Atlantic Highlands did not have a pump out we went to the pump out dock at Half Moon Bay. Conditions were not favorable to go to their unprotected dock and in we went. The pump out system kept losing pressure so it took us an hour to pump out both holding tanks. We entered our slip next to our Looper friends on Moondance without incident. Steve Plotkin the animated marina owner took our lines and we plugged in.

We went to dinner at the BBQ restaurant Memphis Maes and I had pig wings. They had sold out of chicken wings. It was a delightful evening. The servers were college students from Bentley and UMass Amherst.

If this is a pig wing then I guess pigs can fly!

The waitress brought four plates and three pig wings. I asked her why would she would bring four plates and only three pig wings. She returned with a fourth pig wing.

On Saturday my daughter Alison and her husband Oscar and my grandson Jackson came to visit us on CL for two nights. Jackson went for his first boat ride. He is six months old.
