Day 274 - Utsch's
Miles cruised 82, fuel purchase 243 gallons, fuel purchased $558, slip fee $115, daily high temperature 78°f
The storm that blew through yesterday caused a lot of damage. Many trees were blown down and numerous power outages as a result. The area around Cape May was particularly hard hit with 80 mph winds. We missed it by a day.
Farewell Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbor. Notice the heron on the right.
We shoved off at 8:15 am to catch the favorable tide on the C and D canal. There is only one short section with a no wake zone so we powered up and cruised through the canal at 25 mph. It is a very straight canal with flat water that ends at the Delaware River. The Delaware River dumps into Delaware Bay. It was a little lumpy on the beam as we entered the wide water of the bay. After we passed Miah Maull Shoal light we turned left and had the waves on the stern quarter which flattened things out nicely. Once we entered the Cape May Canal it was dead flat again.
CL nicely making way on the C and D Canal.
We are tied up at Utsch’s Marina in Cape May, New Jersey. This a marina frequented by many Loopers. They have a goody bag that contains the coveted Utsch sweet red wine, three biscotti and a bar of handmade soap.
We fueled up and moved to slip 16. There are two very good restaurants within a short walk – The Lobster House and Lucky Bones Bar and Grill.
Bonus photo – waiting for the tide to rise.

We will stay in Cape May for two days and then cruise 42 miles to Atlantic City.
Carl (Chef) Wooden – quote of the day.
“It’s scary to have a 30 foot wave chasing you. If you are steering, you don’t look back. The crew looks back for you, and you watch their faces. When they look straight up, then get ready!”
