Day 251 - Cornwallis

Miles cruised 0, fuel purchased $0, slip fee $24, daily high temperature 77° f

The rain held off for most of the Memorial Day parade but it rained torrents all afternoon. CL has never been cleaner. Time slips away as I write the blog, enter a change of address for our condo in Florida to be forwarded to our PO Box in Lake Villa and check Facebook. I reserved an Enterprise rental car for our site-seeing trips to Williamsburg and Yorktown.

I walked to the Enterprise rental car office on Tuesday morning to pick our car. It was a 30 minute walk. We drove to the Williamsburg tourist information building and decided to visit Yorktown today and then get an earlier start on Wednesday and visit Williamsburg. If time allows we might visit Jamestown on Thursday.

Yorktown is the site of the decisive battle of the Revolutionary War when General George Washington with the help of the French army and navy trapped the British General Cornwallis and forced him to surrender with 6,000 troops.

We spent some time at the Yorktown Victory Center that provides reenactments of civilian and military life during the late 1700’s.

Wall Street Journal article on the great Loop. The Great Loop got front page treatment. I hope it encourages others to follow their dream.

Bonus photo – Don Carman (Rachel’s father) has been maintaining a chart of our Great Loop travels. He has placed a pin in each harbor where we have stayed during our trip.  He will get to place a new pin in Deltaville, VA. on Friday.

Carl (Chef) Wooden – quote of the day.
