Day 115 - Back Street Boys
Miles cruised 50 feet. fuel purchased $0, slip fee $133, daily high temperature 79*f, low temperature 74*f
We had a fun night visiting with Craig and Day Olney at the Conch Republic restaurant. The conch chowder and pink shrimp were outstanding. Happy Hour drinks are almost free. Jack Daniels and ginger, Bacardi and Coke are $3.50. Craig said the cocktails at the Boca Chica Navy marina tiki bar are $1.50. Road trip.
We moved the boat today for the first time in 32 days. We moved exactly 50 feet from slip 11 to slip 8. Slip 11 was wide enough to fit two sailboats into it side by side. Slip 8 is a little narrower. CL has a beam of 15’6″ and the slip is 16’6″ wide. Talk about threading the needle. The wind was blowing on our beam and we were on a face pier in a narrow fairway. The bow thruster would have come in handy but it wasn’t working. I backed the boat out by steering with the engines. On a dual engine power boat you never touch the steering wheel when maneuvering at slow speeds. I pinned the bow against the dock and spun the stern by putting the starboard engine in reverse and the port engine in forward and then tweaked them in and out of gear. We backed down the fairway then pulled into our new slip bow first. It all worked out fine. On Saturday we will cruise 7 miles to the Stock Island Marina and stay their until January 31.
These are the J 70 sailboats in our old slip.
The mechanic came over to fix the bow thruster. Somehow a very large fuse had come lose. He pushed it back in place and all is well. Next time we will know what to look for.
The forecast for Thursday night is for the wind to blow like hades. The harbor master came around and warned us to make sure we were well secured.
On Wednesday we night were walking down Front Street near the Hog’s Breath when an ambulance passed by with the siren wailing. We saw it pull up to the Hog’s Breath. All the Key West police policemen were there to get in on the action. We kept walking over to the Green Parrot.
According the the Monroe County Detention Center inmate log, the 35-year-old Dancing With the Stars contestant Nick Carter, was taken into custody on Wednesday night. The Key West Police arrest log reveals the former boy-band hunk was arrested for one misdemeanor count of battery, touch or strike, at 8:13 p.m.
Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter was arrested Wednesday night in Key West, Florida, after he allegedly punched a bouncer. Carter and a friend were denied service at Hog’s Breath Saloon in Key West after appearing “highly intoxicated,” police say.
A bartender refused to serve the pair “due to their level of intoxication,” a Key West Police Department incident report said. The two were asked to leave the saloon after Carter became agitated and aggressive toward the bartender, the report said. Initially refusing to go, they made their way outside, where Carter allegedly sucker-punched the bouncer.
Carter, 35, was arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor battery. The second man, Michael Rae Papayans, 27, was charged with the same count. The pop star’s bail was set at $1500 Thursday afternoon, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.
