Day 37 - Dream on!!
Miles cruised 105 or as the crow flies 60 miles due to lots of switch back turns. Fuel purchased 140 gallons. Fuel purchased $401 Slip fee $0, Daily high temperature 72*FThis is why the straight line distance is 60 miles and the actual distance is 105 miles.Bobby's famous catfish restaurant is only open on weekends so last night we feasted on the boat. Andy has become the master of the microwave/convection oven. We dined on pork loin, baked potatoes and French cut green beans prepared on the boat rather than fried catfish.Once again we awoke to the sound of rain pitter pattering on our deck. The low temperature over night was 65*F so it was good sleeping weather. We can open the portholes in the shower when it is raining and the rain goes into our jacuzzi tub. Yes, we have a full size jacuzzi tub on board. We walked our boat (did not start the engines) to the fuel dock. The other two boats departed very early to make the trip all the way to Mobile. Lora the owner told us Bubba would be here at 8:00 am to fuel us. At 8:15 am I called her and she said she forgot to tell Bubba and he will be right down. It was pouring rain so he took his time. Dale and I are in full sailor foul weather gear mode including boots. Bubba got us started with the fueling and we told him we would finish and meet him at his office. He thought that was a great idea. We used an umbrella to keep the rain out of the fuel tanks while we filled up. We took on 140 gallons. Yesterday was the first time we had run on plane (28 mph) for several hours. This gives a good idea of our fuel consumption at various cruising speeds. At 28 mph we get .7 miles per gallon, at 10-11 mph we get 1 mile per gallon and at 7-8 mph we get 1.6 miles per gallon. Assuming diesel fuel costs $2.50 per gallon it costs $3.60 a mile at 28 mph, $2.50 a mile at 10 mph and $1.56 a mile at 8 mph. It just depends on when you want to arrive at your destination. The Gorton Fisherman refueling Changing Latitudes in the rain. While I was in the office paying Bubba for the fuel he mentioned he used to work in the oil patch until the oil price dropped so low. According to Bubba it is all due to Obama's war on big oil. Now all the rigs are idle and no one is working. Donald Trump scares him a little bit but he feels he is the best GOP candidate because he speaks his mind and not just spouts political BS.Donald Trump says one of his key attributes as president are his negotiation skills. Trump claims he can meet with Vladimir Putin and work things out. I would like to see him negotiate with Steven Tyler before he enters high level negotiations with Mr. Putin.Steven Tyler is the latest artist to tell Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump not to use one of his songs on the campaign trail. And even though he's a huge fan of the rocker, Trump is acting unfazed by the diss.Trump has used Aerosmith's "Dream On" during various campaign events, but Tyler's camp recently took legal action to make sure it never happens again. On Oct. 10, a second cease-and-desist letter related to usage of the song was sent to Trump for President Inc.Steven Tyler from Aerosmith.Today is the day we lock through at Coffeeville and enter salt water. We will anchor just north of Mobile, Alabama tonight and cruise to Mobile on Wednesday. The other two boats at Bobby's Fish Camp are cruising to Mobile today. We are not in a hurry to get there since we cannot depart until November 1, due to insurance limitations. When arrived at the Coffeeville Lock the towboat Jackson III was at the top of the lock and having a crew change. A white pickup truck with a club cab pulled up, several people hopped out and went on the tow boat. Several people got off the tow and climbed into the pick up truck and drove off.We are anchored in Big Bayou Canot at MM 16. We are only 28 miles from our next port Fairhope, Alabama. We anchored up a small tributary off the Black Warrior River. There are a few fishing shacks along this river. The cruse guide warns - "the owls at night may scare you the first time you hear them. You will swear there is a wolf barking in a tree near you." Canot is pronounced canoe and means small boat in French.A final photo a Bobby's Fish CampCarl (Chef) Wooden - quote of the day."Below 50 degrees south latitude there is no law. Below 60 degrees south latitude there is no God." - Old Sailors Adage
