The Heritage Harbor Marina has a free loaner car. Just fill it up with gas before bringing it back.  The area within Starved Rock State Park has been home to humans as early as 8,000 BC. In 1673 French explorers Louis Jolliet and Father Jacques Marquette passed through here. Starved Rock State Park derives it name from a legend of injustice and retribution. Pontiac, chief of the Ottawa tribe, was slain by the Illiniwek. During one of the battles to avenge his death, the Illiniwek sought refuge on the top of a 125' sandstone bluff. The Ottawa and Potawatomi surrounded the bluff and held their ground until the Illiniwek died of starvation  After a day of touring, we returned to the marina and enjoyed a swim in the pool and had dinner at the Red Dog Grille.Dale and Andy on the overlook at Starved Rock State Park Changing Latitudes at the Heritage Harbor Marina in Ottawa, Illinois.  CL is top centerimageRed Dog Grille at the Heritage Harbor Marina - great  selection  of craft beers.image
