Day 189 - You don't have to go home but you can't stay here!
Miles cruised 0, fuel purchased $0, slip fee $130, daily high temperature 85°fExcept for the roar of freight trains over the bascule bridge every two hours or so, and a few of them blowing their horns, it is fairly quiet at the Sunset Bay Marina.Priscilla and I spent Wednesday afternoon looking at condos in the Stuart area. This would be a nice place to spend the winter. We will look at a few more on Friday. Dan and Iris have accompanied us and have provided invaluable advice. On Thursday at 9:00 am our mechanic Solomon came aboard to change the oil and oil filters and all the fuel filters again. We did not observe any additional fuel contamination so we are changing the filters through an abundance of caution and at great expense.Just in case you thought it was easy to get a boat slip in Stuart here is a recent email from the Dockmaster. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here."Many of you have requested to stay longer than your original departure date. At this time that is impossible. Between today’s date the 30th, and Friday, April 1st, we have 32 vessels departing, and 28 reservations.Weather is not looking good for the next few days, unfortunately bad weather is part of the boating life. We would be more than happy to extend your stay, if we did not make a reservation for your slip based on your requested departure date.Thank you very much for your cooperation and understanding in this very important matter."Matthew MoritzDock MasterThis is the dingy dock at the Sunset Bay Matina. They have a large mooring field to accommodate boaters that prefer to not be in a slip.Dan and Iris have been extremely attentive hosts and have made our visit to Stuart a great time. They have arranged numerous restaurants for lunch and dinner and invited us to swim in the pool at their condo. The gang enjoying lunch at the Pelican Cafe. After dinner at the Boat House we went shopping at Publix. We need to restock after returning from the Bahamas. It is nice to have US pricing and BOGO (buy one, get one free) offers again. We are squeezing six people and all of our groceries into Dan's car. Andy climbs in the back and we pack the groceries in all around her.We enjoyed a great dinner at the Boahouse. It is Thursday so Captain Jack once again waxes poetic.RainHere I sitas it rains a bittime starts to flyas March goes byit's time to preparesoon the weather will get fairto get boat chores donefor the summer's fun.Cap'n Jack3-31-16Bonus photo - Captain Gabe Viti lifting up his new Island Packet 485.
